May 10, 1906

The butler brings you a stack of letters and after shuffling through them you find what you've been waiting for: an invitation to join the great Howard Carter on a secret dig in Greece .

You get your secretary to make all the arrangement for the trip. You will travel overland by train to Italy and then by steamer to the island of Mithropolis , where the dig is taking place.

Your valet packs both your bags. There is no way a gentleman can travel without his valet. Who would help him dress? And someone has to fetch and carry.

After a luxurious trip aboard the Oriental Express, you board the Eastern Queen and in two days time arrive at the Island . A group of young Greek boys vie for the privilege of carrying your bags and so feeling particularly benevolent you let them.

That night you and Howard dine with other members of the expedition and you are enlightened as to the mythic origins of the place. You all laugh heartily when one of the guides warns you that these are no myths.

The next morning you set out. Your natural curiosity gets the better of you however as you see a low tunnel like opening in what looks like a cave in the side of a rock face.
